Question: My daughter had an eye injury as a child. She was 6. Sh'e 29 now. She has a hole in her macula and is 20/200 in that eye. Today, she called and sent me a picture. The area around the injured eye is red. The lid looks swollen and the pupil and iris don't seem to be tracking with the other. She also has neurofibromotosis on that side.

Brief Answer:
Examination is required to find associated conditions of neurofibromatosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history and the photo attached with the question.
The eye is appearing red with swelling of the lid indicating a probable inflammation of the eye in the form of uveitis.
Since she is having neurofibromatosis examination is required to rule out the associated lesions.
She requires eye examination to look for various lesions seen in neurofibromatosis like iris nodules, uveitis, glaucoma, glioma of the optic nerve....

The injury of the childhood involving the macula is not responsible for her present eye condition.

Hence I advice you to consult your ophthalmologist for evaluation by slit lamp examination and ophthalmoscopy to find out these associated lesions of the neurofibromatosis and treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
