Question : Hi doctor, I am a 48 year old female who has presented twice to a primary physician regarding throat issues in the past two months. I was given two sets of antibiotics including amoxicillin and one that started with a CLA. I also presented to an ENT who told me that I was in the process of healing. I went through a stressful situation and now it seems to be back with a vengeance. I'm scheduled to see an ENT on Wednesday but was wondering if I needed to see someone earlier than that due to my throat being worse than ever......Any advice is appreciated...

Brief Answer:
recurrent upper respiratory tarct infections

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You seem to be suffering from repeated attacks of upper respiratory tract infections. Some people are more prone for repeated attacks than are others. There is no way to prevent upper respiratory tract infections, but we can reduce their frequency. In your case , you should do warm salt water gargling 5 times every day , it should become a part of your routine like brushing and bathing. It will reduce the number of attacks.

You should drink lots of fluids and keep yourself well hydrated at all times. Good hydration reduces the number of attacks. Avoid cold foods and drinks and air conditioning. Other than that there is not much we can do.

For the time being you can take a pain killer like Tylenol after checking your dose. Keep doing warm salt water gargling . If you do not feel better in a couple of days then see a doctor because you may need another course of antibiotics
