Question : Left renal duplex with thinned out cortex at upper moity with marked upper moity hydroureter ending into large ureterocele

Mild hydronephrosis and hydroureter in left moity ureter

Right renal duolex D/d bifid renal pelvis

Can you please suggest what is this for a male 8 month old.

Doctor has suggested immediate surgery

Renal duplex system is a common birth defect formed due to improper fusion of the upper and lower part of the kidneys. Unless associated with other complaints, the condition does not need surgery for itself. So, whether surgery is essential depends on other significant problems that the child is suffering from. Since hydronephrosis is developing, eventual surgery might be required. But I think that you should get a second and expert opinion from a pediatric nephrologist about the treatment line.
