Suggest Treatment For Restless Sleep

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: My husband has sleep problems. Recently he was sleeping for about 8-10 without waking up, and for the last 3 or 4 days he has woke up about every 1+hours through the night, and last night woke up and could not go back to sleep all day today, even after taking klonopin, 2 Saphris under the mouth pills and out of desperation- 4 Somnipure non drug sleep pills. He just got from his dr. 'Serequil'(300 mg each) - and was told to take 2 at bedtime, but that he could take them NOW since he had missed so much sleep. Can he take klonopin or multiple vitamins or any Somnipure with 'Serequil' - and what is the story on this drug as relating to sleep? Need this quickly PLEASE. He is frantic for sleep. PLEASE HURRY!! THank you SO much.

My husband also has depression and anxiety, as well as possible apnea, though he has slept quite well but woke up each day with horrible fatigue and dark thoughts, after taking mirtazapine(Remeron) at bedtime along with those pills I mentioned in the question. He can't stop his Remeron which he has taken for about 7 years now, so can he take Seraquil with Remeron? He will be frantic if he can't! Please help!

Brief Answer:
Be relaxed , he will be okay

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms XXXX

First and foremost let me reassure you there is no cause for concern, things can be taken care off.
Do not panic. Lack of sleep is not that harmful as injudicious use of pills especially in view of preexisting history of apnea.

I would suggest you the following

1. Serequin and Remeron are both antidepressants. They have sedation as one of the side effect. So both combining together is not good option.
2. You can repeat one dose of Klonopin, that should be sufficient to invoke sleep
3. Read some bed side story: It will relax him and may be helpful in inducing sleep . A relaxed attitude both by affected individual and care giver is very important.
4. A glass of warm milk with 3 spoons of honey added will be helpful

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Thank you for your reassurance.
He just scared me to death, however, by taking JUST ONE of his 300 mg. pills, and coming to the door where I am on the computer and 'falling' into the room! I was about to call the ER, but he took my phone and said he was 'pretending' HOWEVER, he 'crawled' into the living room and lay on the couch for a few minutes, then went to his bed and then got up and almost 'tottered' around the room, and afterward slowly getting into bed, almost took another pill, but didn't and fell asleep - where he is right now.
What happened??
He WAS SO weak and had puffy eyes from no sleep all day, so what did the seraquil do to his brain? He after about 15 minutes after taking the ONE pill, he felt very strange, and that is when he came to me, etc.
What WOULD have happened if he had taken TWO of them?
What am I to expect???
Please help us!
Would these help him sleep on a trip to KY, where we had planned to go to a wellness clinic this weekend for 3 weeks, or should be wait until he is over his lack of sleep?
Sometimes he gets 8-10 hrs of sleep but he NEVER gets quality or restorative sleep
Thank you so much for being there!

Brief Answer:
Go ahead with planned trip

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Ms

Excessive intake of antidepressants or sedatives can cause confusion and restlessness. So would not recommend to take these medicine excessively.

Change of place will definitely make him feel better especially on going to tour. So go ahead with the planned trip.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

Thank you for your response.
My husband and I are shortly planning to go to bed.
Because of his bad experience this afternoon with 300 mg of Seroquel, he is naturally worried about how much to take at bedtime.
Some on internet forums think that 600 mg is the safe amount. Others say it is a bit high.
His doctor prescribed 600 mg at bedtime, but as stated after his experience this afternoon, he wants to make sure.
Since we are going to bed very shortly, we would appreciate as quickly an answer as possible, PLEASE!
Thank you. XXXXXXX
