Question : About 6-7 months ago discovered a black powder in my left ear. My Dr told me it was a fungus that naturally occurs in the ear and gave me anti fungal cream self administered via syringe and catheter. This appeared to reduce the problem but I developed a high pitched whistle in left ear, and I was advised by DR to use olive oil. About a month ago I caught a mild cold, took panadol flu and cold and I was fairly fine. My cold symptoms seem to subside but my eyes were itchy and running nose, no fever. I eventually realized it could be hay fever as I live in a dusty environment and took antihistamine which seem to clear the problem. I had just resumed scuba diving, practicing in a warm pool, I had dived week before, no problems, this time I gagged twice underwater and was in bed for two days, I thought could be middle ear infection compounded by uncorrected vision I'm +3 both eyes. My DR gave me Stugeron and told me to continue with olive oil in my ears. I thought I also needed antibiotics which you can buy here without prescription remox 500, I also bought myself some eardrops waxol.
I feel about 70% since that dive in the pool. I still have to lie down in the evening and still have that annoying intermittent ring in my left ear. A horrible taste develops back of tongue which makes me eat to remove, sweets gum etc. My head feels light headed, no pain just dull. I am also overdue for an eye test so that will be my next step. Brief Answer:
Possible middle ear infection with disequilibrium in pressures
Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir.
I can certainly understand your concern.
Many of your symptoms are related to the disturbing ear pressures, which is possibly due to middle ear infection as well.
As of now, you are heading in a right direction of assessment.
Continue STUGERON as prescribed by your physician.
It's important to assess the severity of middle ear disease.
Consultation with an Otolaryngologist will help.
In few cases, surgical intervention and pressure tube insertion will help to improve your symptoms.
Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
