Suggest Treatment For Round Red Bumps On Forearms

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: I have many small round red bumps on both of my forearms that don't itch or blister. They kind of look like a pimple but it won't burst when squeezed and nothing comes out. Around 2 or 3 bumps started about 3 weeks ago and now the count is up to 20. I've seen 2 Dermatologist's and was prescribed 2 different types of topical steroid creams and a prescription of Prednisone that hasn't helped.

Brief Answer:
Acneform eruption; Oral and topical treatment as for acne

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have also reviewed the Images.

Most of them seem like follicular lesions. I suggest a possibility of acneform eruption which has probably worsened with Oral and topical steroids. I suggest you to discontinue these.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to apply benzoyl peroxide 5% gel twice daily. Alternatively you may apply tretinoin 0.025% cream at night and benzoyl peroxide 5% gel during day.
In addition I would suggest Oral Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 2 weeks.

Does acneform eruption continue to spread without proper treatment and is it contagious? How is it contracted? High weeds and old dirty car towels are the only thing I can remember being around before I noticed the bumps starting to appear.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Acneform eruption is not a serious condition

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Acneform eruption is not contagious. Its not an infection. Therefore it is not contracted from outside. It is akin to acne.
Acneform eruption is a fairly common condition and may occur in those who may be using topical greasy/ occlusive moisturizers Or topical steroid creams Or certain oral medications like prednisolne. Acneform eruption may spread if these are continued.
Steroid cream worsen rather than improve acneform eruption. You also noticed that rather than improving they increased further after using topical steroids and prednisolone.
