Question: Hi my son is 2 1/2 and he has been sick with what seems to be a cold since Friday. He's had s runny stuffy nose, and coughing. He was eating ok but he didn't eat well (barely anything at all) yesterday and woke up this morning and vomited. He has pale lips and face and he was shaking a little and weak. I have been trying to give him water and his electrolytes this whole time and as well as giving him natural herbal cough/bronchial/cold syrup and I gave him child acetaminophen once when he has a low grade fever which lasted 1 day. Any suggestions as to what this is or what else I can do? Is he going to be ok? He won't eat anything

Brief Answer:
Please get him clinically evaluated by a pediatrician if not done earlier

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
Decreased feeding and lethargy upto a certain extent is common during any illness.
The most common cause of cough, cold and fever in this age is some infection, viral infection is much more common than bacterial one.
In viral infection fever usually starts declining after 2-3 days although cough and cold may persist longer. As per your history it seems more to be viral infection.
I would like to know if there is associated rapid breathing, decreased urine frequency or cough is very severe enough to cause vomiting. Also tell me what cough syrup you are giving to the baby.
Here I would suggest you to consult a pediatrician for clinical evaluation (to assess the severity of condition) if it is not done earlier.
I won't get worried if child has been evaluated by a pediatrician and there is no involvement of lower respiratory tract or any other significant abnormality.
You may try steam and some nasal drop in addition to cough syrup for better relief.
Please get back with the answer so that I better able to help you out.
With regards
