Question : I have a scab on my hip area with a few others around it in the same area. I was wondering what it might be? It's not really around the genitals so I think I can rule out herpes correct?

Brief Answer:
Not herpes. kindly upload few good resolution pictures of the affected area

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the scab on hip area along with related few other spots and concern for herpes in the same.

Herpes lesions manifest itself as small vesicles (fluid filled blisters) which remains for just a day or two and then forms ulcers which are quite painful. These ulcers then heals in next 5-7 days.

To begin with also these vesicles are quite painful and itchy with discomfort and once the vesicles burst in a day or two then the ulcers which are formed are quite painful for next 4-5 days. So the symptoms can never go unnoticed. These lesions are basically present around mouth or penile area nto buttocks. In yourself I can make out that no such symptom is present matching with the above symptoms.

In view to help you best I request you to kindly upload few good resolution pictures of the affected area. For that you have a feature on the right side of the page. or else you can send the pictures at

I uploaded a few pictures of the scabs/scars that are forming in that area. I dont really have any itching, burning sensation, i have not covered it with a bandaid or Neosporin to try to help it heal. the itching sensation only occurs every now and then but I do have a tendency to pick at my scabs. There were no blisters that formed, it was only a scab that I saw come up.

Brief Answer:
Not related to herpes. Simple eczema of the skin:suggestions below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back and thanks a lot for posting the pictures and further details.

After analyzing the picture and correlating with the details let me reassure you fully that the condition is not related to herpes. So just relax for the same. I can make out the possibility simple eczema of the skin.

For the betterment kindly follow the suggestions below:

1. Do not Pinch pop or squeeze or rub any area. It is the sole most important factor to reduce eh further spread of the condition.

2. Wear cotton clothes and avoid synthetic clothes. The clothes should cover the entire neck and upper chest area so that direct sunlight should not be evident over the affected area.

3. Stay in cool environment(preferably AC) and avoid sweating.

4. Take two time bath once in morning and at night time which will soothe your skin and prevent the aggravation of the problem

5. Avoid hot – humid climate.

6. Do not use any deodorants or any cosmetics over and near the affected area.

7. Do cold compression over the affected area. Take a wet towel soaked in cold water and apply it for 5-10 minutes for 3-4 times a day.

For the part of treatment I suggest my patients to follow:

1. Apply plane cortisone or fluticasone or Mometasone cream in a thin layer in morning and at night time. Apply in a very thin layer so that it should not be visible to naked eye. You can apply it for 7 days and then stop it after that.

2. If there is any irritation or itching is present then can take tablet “Loratadine” or "Deslotatadine" tablet by mouth up to three to four times also if the itching is more.

You can meet a doctor and apprise him/her with my suggestions.

I hope this information will help you.

"Wish you good health"
