Question : I have just been on a holiday sleeping in cheap hotel rooms and I think I may have contracted scabies . I have read some info that no over the counter creams really work and oral medications work much better . what medication and treatment works best as there is a lot of conflicting information about this and I don't want to the itch to get worse and make treatment harder
Brief Answer:
Treatment options for scabies
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern.
Treatment of choice for scabies is 5% permethrin lotion Or 1% gamma benzene hexachloride lotion, applied from neck downwards, to whole body and left overnight for 8 hours.
These are effective and Single whole body application is usually curative.
Oral Ivermectol 12 mg single dose is also curative in scabies.
An Oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
Regards
