Suggest Treatment For Sciatic Nerve Compression And Muscle Cramps

Question: I have been having problems w/both my knees. My Dr. who is a specialist in OA says in "laymens" terms" it can be called floating knee cap and I have to strengthen my hip muscles so I have been doing re-have exercises to help w/that. Then all of a sudden Thursday night everything went to hell! I had pain in both legs (no back involvement) like I had NEVER had before could not stand any weight either side and they were collapsing on me. If my husband wouldn't have been helping me, I would have face planted several times, I was SCREAMING in pain just to rise up off a toilet seat. Calves, knees, thighs, they were all serious hurting. I couldn't walk, and even today, I had to borrow my mother-in-laws walker to help get my self up from a seated position and then to be able to shuffle along slowly and catch my self if they start to give out. NO back, neck, or foot pain? The only thing that I wonder about is that I was in the hospital last week for SEVERE MIGRAINE/w seizure and I am wondering if this could be a symptom of a blood clot? I am still in extreme pain and am very concerned because there is a strong history of death due to stroke on my mothers side (she died at 51) and I have an aortic aneurysm at the aortic arch that is scanned every year by a Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, right now it is stable, not within recommended ranges to be operated on, and not showing any signs of dissecting. Back to these horribly painful, malfunctioning legs... any thoughts? Thanks for reading this over. I rally hope you're not a bored 12 year old who crashed this site for kicks, because I'm having some serious , painful and mobility issues here and haven't a clue as to clue as to turn.

Brief Answer:
Sciatic nerve compression, Muscle cramps

Detailed Answer:
Ho there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

Since toh are suffering from multiple disorders like Migraine, Fibromyalgia and hip and knee arthritis it is really being hard to go on with normal daily activities.

I believe you have experienced severe cramps of the thigh and leg muscles while you were sitting on the toilet seat. This could occur due to nerve compression sure to improper posture on the seat or excessive compression on the sciatic nerves die to long time sitting.

That is why when you stood up you felt weakness of the lower limbs which may have been associated with tingling and numbness of the lower limbs and feeling of falling and legs collapsing.

You should have a healthy diet and drink 1-2 litres of water daily. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables. Eat calcium rich diet like cereals, pulses, cheese, eggs, nuts, chicken and lean meat. Do regular cardio exercise to keep your muscles active and prevent cramps. Take Tablet Neurobion forte twice a day.

Get a proper checkup from your Orthopaedic surgeon to rule out any major nerve compressing problems like slipped disc which can cause similar problem.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanking you.

Dr. Aashish Raghu

NO THIGH CRAMPS OR LEG CRAMPS jut pain...most of it pin pointed at knees legs pa-bi lateral yes, but as states no back pain at all... The collapse is coming at varring times when I am shuffeling along and then w/out warning..they just giveout. My duscs are in proper alignment the only problems THAT WERE SEEN were these hip muscles that were allowing my ankles to drift out of alignment causing all kinds of grinding, popping, swelling, grating, pain and the like, I and my scans totally disagree w/your diagnosis, ND WHY WOULD IY HIT SO SUDDENLY AND MORE SEVERELY THAN BEBORE? OH, AND NOT THE FEELING OF FALLING...THE LEGS ACTUALL COLLAPSE I DON'T ACCEPY THIS ANSWER AT ALL AS I HAVE HAD SCIATIC ISSUES BEFORE AND THIS IS nothing LIKE WHAT I A EXPERIENCING!

Brief Answer:
Hamstring spasm, Hip, knee and ankle arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the follow up query.

The condition you experience could be hamstring muscle spasm.

Kindly upload your MRI Results and any other investigations which mention anything about disordered alignment of the hips and ankles so that I could be in a better position to help you.

It is possible that a degenerative spine, slipped discs or bony hip and knee disorders like sequelae of arthritis causing malalignment and difficulty in moving around could be plausible explanations. You can use the muscle relaxants as advised. Hot water bottle application will help a lot.

Avoid bending forward or lifting heavy weights. Must exercise and prevent obesity which tends to aggravate arthritis of the hip, knee and ankle. Kindly follow the other precautions detailed in our previous conversation.

Kindly upload reports pertaining to your diagnosis or in process investigations that can help me make a note specific diagnosis and help you understand your problem in a better light.

I hope I have answered your query.

Thanking you.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
