Question : I have a sebaceous cyst on my penis. It is not very large, and it does not leak any fluid. It is about 1mm in diameter. I am going to see a urologist in a few days. What methods are the safest and most effective ways for a physician to remove a cyst of this type? And how long will it take for it to heal properly. Can it heal within 2 or 3 days? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Incision and drainage, 7 days to heal

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The skin adjoining the base of the penis is prone to get sebaceous cysts. Normally they don't need to be treated as long as they don't increase in size considerably or get infected. Incision and drainage of the cyst contents can be done under local anesthesia. Its a safe procedure and would hardly take 20 minutes. Other procedures like local injections, LASER are also available but I/D is the safest and tried/tested procedure since long. It would heal completely by a week depending upon the depth of the wound and the amount of tissue excised during the procedure. The cyst would of course require examination first to determine whether removal is required or not.
