Suggest Treatment For Seborrheic Dermatitis On Face

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Dec 2014
Question: Hi Doctor. I have skin issues on my face for past 2-months. How do I heal splits at corners of mouth, on bottom and upper lip and on the chin? Peeling lips? Hardening spots of skin on chin and cheeks? Sometimes itchy eyes and light hardening on eyelid and around noses. Been to dermatologist, says I have topical dermatitis and Candida. It receded for a few days and has returned. I'm worried. Never had anything like this before. Soaking skin with wet cloth w/ baking soda or salt, use cortisone 1% (on cheeks), Mupirocin 2% on the splits (fissures), goldenseal salve on cracks on lips and chickweed salve on dry areas.

Thank you. Pictures uploaded per your request. In your answer could you include possible reasons this condition occurs and re-occur? Also, ways to prevent it from occurring again. Please give skincare suggestions, ie ways to clean the skin, what to use on the skin. Is makeup ok after some point? Any other education would be beneficial. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Thanks for the close up pictures .
You seem to have developed severe seborrheic dermatitis .
Yes ,.it surely tends to recur time and again in most people .
I also see signs of candida infection especially at the angles of mouth .
You need to mix and apply clotrimazole cream and cortisone cream over the affected areas twice daily .
Over the angles of mouth ,apply only clotrimazole cream twice daily .
In addition ,use a moisturiser regularly over face and lips and try to apply it as frequently as possible .
Use a sunscreen regularly before going out in the sun .
Avoid application of irritants like dettol or savlon or soaps with these agents over the face .
You can use slight make up once in a while ,but make sure you apply the moisturiser and the medicines over the face first ,and then apply the make up .
You need to give rest to your skin too from medicines ,so whenever the problem heals up completely or gets better ,stop applying all the medicines and just continue with the moisturiser and the sunscreen .

Hope it helps

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX I stopped all different topical medications and I am using castor oil as a moisturizer on face and lips and it is helping. I will get clotrimazole today. I have and am using cortisone, 1% hydrocortisone.

I also have Mupirocin 2% prescribed to me to use on the cracks on the skin when they are inflamed and open and to use cortisone on the lesser affected areas. What is your opinion? What is Mupirocin? Is it a cortisone?

Is it safe to use clotrimazole and cortisone on the lips and angels of mouth for candida infection?

I want you to know that your assessment has been the best for me and I feel better capable of healing myself. I will give you a very good review!

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Thanks for your kind words .
I would like to help you to the best of my ability .
Mupirocin is an antibiotic cream and is usually prescribed to the open wounds anywhere over the body.
But in my opinion ,since the cracks in your case are occuring due to candida infection ,application of clotrimazole would be more beneficial especially over angles of mouth.
Over rest of the areas ,mix equal quality of the two and apply .
Also try to increase intake of vitamin rich fruits and salads ,or if possible ,take some oral vitamin supplements for sometime ,especially those with high vitamin b content .
So kindly follow the regimen as advised ,I am sure it should be of help.
