Question : Im very scared that i have esophageal cancer because i have had severe GERD for 14 yrs, I'm 38, and my prilosec isnt working well anymore. Are flareups common?
hi not all symptoms suggest cancer.It may be gerd itself. Consult your doctor for investigation and management.

Is severe GERD common? How high is the risk of developing esophageal cancer wgen youve had uncontrolled GERD for years?

GERD can be recurrent and persistent.They usually do not go for cancers. But there is possibility in very few persons.
