Question : my son is having a pancreatic attack, severe pain what can I do for him

* Treatment of Pancreatitis is necessarily undertaken at hospital for
- Fasting becomes 1st line of treatment in this condition, in order to give some rest to pancreas.This makes I V fluids necessary to maintain the good hydration.
- Maintenance of nutrition can also be well managed in hospital
- Necessary investigations would be undertaken in the hospital followed by specific treatment.Monitoring for response to treatment & avoiding serious side effects becomes necessary.
- Severe pain is characteristic of Pancreatitis & high power pain killers ( Like morphine ) in suitable appropriate dose are needed to control it. Some of the killers can make patient drowsy/ unresponsive... Please keep this mind & don't be scared if he is so.
- Acute pancreatitis brings about severe inflammation & may have high grade fever .Oxygen becomes some times needful to keep the vital organs unaffected.
