Question : My father has had pacemaker installed recently. He's having spasms in his abdomen, chest. Doctor has checked pacemaker & says it's not from it. It's as if he's having hiccups.This new condition started after installing the pacemaker. Is this condition common & dangerous?

Hi,

Sometimes there is a sensitivity of diaphragm after pacemaker installation. It may cause hiccups and similar complaints. It is not dangerous but it may be inconvenient for the patient. If they have installed it recently, maybe it will disappear gradually. But he needs a doctor evaluation to find out if it is really pacemaker consequence or just hiccups.
