Suggest Treatment For Severe Acne On The Face

Question : My girlfriend in PI has a very serious case of acne that has been going on for a month. No treatment is helping her. They just keep coming back. This all began after she had a facial at a salon.

Good Morning, Dr. Sawhney I am having a lot of computer problems this morning so I can not, unfortunately, upload a picture of Elizel. She lives in PI and she has sent me pictures of her acne. Sadly, she has large pimples covering her entire face. This has been going for over a month now, and is terribly embarrassing to her. I believe has had an antibiotic for 7 days and an anti-inflammatory for about 3 days. Not sure which ones??? And she has a cream to dry out her face. However, nothing is working at all! Her face is still covered in large pimples. Thank you for your help! Dr. XXXX

Management of acne

Detailed Answer:
In case of severe acne she will require long antibiotic cover.
If I was her treating doctor I would recommend her to take capsule doxycycline 100 mg once daily at night and apply benzoyl peroxide 2.5 percent gel on the pimples twice daily.
Also ask her to use a salicylic acid facewash twice daily.
These are prescription drugs and she needs to see a doctor in person to get them.
Also ask her to avoid cosmetics, keep her face dry, avoid oiling of scalp and reduce the intake of sugary foods.
