Suggest Treatment For Severe Allergic Reactions To Wasp Sting

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Aug 2017
Question: I had an allergic reaction to a wasp sting early this AM and used my epi pen. By noon I took a Zyrtec and 10 mg of prednisone as subs by my Dr.for such a case. Last time I had a reaction I went to ER. I became very sleepy and am having similar symptoms but not as severe. I'm thinking what they gave me was more potent.
Would I need to continue the Zyrtec and prednisone the following day. While I still have some redness it seems to be disapating. What's your take on epi pen and the other meds?

Brief Answer:
Continue for a second day

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns.. I agree with your doctor on the prescribed medications and o would recommend that you continue on the Zyrtec and prednisone tomorrow until the redness disappears . you may also need to continue on these medications for a third day if the symptoms continue.. you probably were more sleepy the previous attack as you might have received an intravenous antihistaminic .. I hope I answered your question..

Thank you Dr. Showman,

Following my previous question, my blood pressure XXXXXXX to a very high level183/94.
It has since come down.
I'm on blood pressure meds and wondered if the Zyrtec was the cause. The note on the epi pen says after a sting blood pressure may go down.
Since Zyrtec is an antihistamine and would seem good for stings but bad for blood pressure, what would one do in this instance.

Follow up question has been written and submitted.

Brief Answer:
Side effect of epi pen and Zyrtec

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, both epi pen and Zyrtec can cause elevation of blood pressure , but since you are using them temporarily your blood pressure will be expected to come down to its normal level in the following couple of days .. I hope you find this helpful.
