Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Let me know more details about your problem to help you further.

- Since when are you experiencing anxiety, depression and shortness of breath?

- Since when are you using alprazolam occasionally for anxiety?

- Do you have any specific stress (social, economical, occupational, relationship) which has made you emotionally disturbed??

- Do you have any physical illness and if yes are you taking any medicines for the same?

- Since when do you have sleep problem?

For your information:

Treatment of depression includes both medicines and psychotherapy.

In psychotherapy I prefer cognitive behavior therapy (CBT).In mild cases only CBT is sufficient. In moderate to severe cases initially medicines and then CBT is added. And later on medicines stopped gradually.
In your case at present medicines are must.

In medicines SSRI group of drugs (fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, escitalopram) are main stay of the treatment. There are other group of drugs as well with different mechanism and excellent results.
Benzodiazepines group of drugs (clonazeapm, lorazepam, alprazolam or etizolam) are used initially for short duration for fast symptomatic relief.

I will be happy to help further after your response.
Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
