Suggest Treatment For Severe Anxiety While On Vyvanse

Question: My daughter is on vyvance for ADD she's 18 year old tennis player. At practice she is fine but when she steps on the court in a tournament she gets anxiety hands sweat mind races. Can she take a beta blocker too? Any drug interactions with the 2?

Betablockers may counteract the effects of Vyvanse.

Since the cause of your daughter symptoms seems to be anxiety, use of an anxiolytic drug ( Xanax for example ) 30 minutes to one hour before these activities is a more logical choice.

I thought medication such as Xanax had to get into your system before it can work like daily for a few weeks? Are you saying taking one before a match she will feel the effects??

Immediate release form of Xanax may show anxiolytic effects even after a couple of hours after use.

However, it is necessary to be discussed with your daughter's Doctor if maintenance treatment of occasional use is more appropriate to control the anxiety.
