Question: I have had severe back pain beginning last Monday in upper back and shoulder blades. Now my neck and lower back have kicked in with continued spasms around the left shoulder blade along with my left hip. I am wearing a back braced that gets some support. I have had femoral neuropathy in my left leg since surgery gone wrong November 2, 2008 between the L2 & L4. The week before this I had intestinal flu for a week and dropped 11 #s. DH

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Muscle pain and spasms following diarrhea are likely due to electrolyte loss. You need to replenish electrolytes by drinking electrolyte containing drinks like Gatorade.
You have mentioned loosing around 11 pounds in a very short period of time which is quite concerning. Rapid weight loss along with back pain warrants CT scanning of the spine.
For managing the pain you can take Advil 400 mg up to 4 times a day. Please discuss with your doctor regarding prescribing Tramadol. Tramadol is included in a class of opioids which is effective pain medication. You can schedule an appointment with a pain management clinic if more potent opioid than tramadol is required.

Hope I was able to help you.
Please let me know if you need further clarification
