Brief Answer: Get it evaluated Detailed Answer: Hi, Thank you for your query, A lump with pain at bottom of rib cage will need thorough evaluation. It can be a simple lipoma but can also be a cancerous growth especially since you have had thyroid cancer. The lump needs to be seen. Is it movable or fixed? Is it growing in size? The pain also could be due to L5 S1 disk. I will advise you to get it shown to a surgeon and also get an x-ray of your ribcage. Feel free to follow up with us with the reports.

it is fixed.. it does not move... I do not know if it is growing because I just noticed it when my pain got so severe... I take Hydrocodone 10 and it helps ease the pain for about 2 hours.. The pain never completely goes away... It even hurts when I let gas out... The pain is so severe at times I have to have help getting out of bed or off the couch... The workerscomp will not order anymore treatments or MRI... They just prescribe medicine... I have been back to work for over a year since this disk problem with no MRI... They are saying that since the disk bulged that osteoarthritis has sat up... I need someone to tell me why I am having so much pain in the area of that lump... The pain runs down my back and into my side... What should I do... When it comes to my back, my doctor is scared to do anything because of the workman's comp....

Brief Answer: Its from the rib bone. Detailed Answer: Hi, I am sorry for you after hearing that workmans comp is coming in your way to get correct treatment. But you need to get it checked. If the lump is fixed then most probably its from the rib bone. It can be either 1) Osteoarthritic nodule for which you have to take steroids and NSAIDS for reducing pain. 2) Can be a bone spread of cancer for which a detailed work up is needed. I can only advise you to get it checked once at least. Maybe a local private doctor can do a checkup without workmans comp. Regards
