Suggest Treatment For Severe Back Spasms When Diagnosed With Arthritis

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Mar 2017
Question: I have had arthritis for 51 years. I'm 68. I exercise 5 days a week. I have had a knee replaced and back surgery twice. My digits are knobby and crooked. I have shrunk 5 inches. I try to get a back massage at least once a month. I have back muscle spasms daily. I am currently taking Tramadol/1-50 mlg every 4-5 hours. I need an anti-inflammatory that doesn't effect my organs...such as turmeric, which I have started taking this week. What other over- the- counter vitamins/supplements do you recommend? Thank you in advance.

Brief Answer:
Let me advice in detail

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for consulting us.
I can understand your concern.
As your arthritis is in a chronic phase, I'd advice some internal as well as external ayurvedic medications.

Internal medication:

1. Guggul is a very helpful herb for curing arthritis. If available it can be taken in one to 3 gm dose twice a day after meals with warm water.

Contraindications: Not recommended for people with kidney disease or acute rashes.
Available in himalaya herbals. Capsule shuddha guggulu 2 capsules twice a day.

2. Tablet Rumalaya forte from himalaya herbals 2 tablet twice a day. It is a good anti-inflammatory medicine in ayurveda.

Both medicine should be taken half an hour after food.

Diet:

Foods which are easily digestible and do not make wind or gas are good. Vegetable juices and soups are good. Juices of carrot, beat root and cucumber mixed together is also beneficial. Green salad with a dressing of lemon juice and a little salt is also good. Fruits like apples, oranges, grapes and papaya can be taken. Cooked vegetables like squash, zucchini and pumpkin are good. Cooking with spices like cumin, coriander, ginger, asafetida , garlic, fennel and turmeric is also helps a lot.

Avoid eating hot, spicy and fried foods, sweets, cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, broccoli, okra and potatoes should be avoided.

Avoid taking too much tea, coffee, alcohol, white sugar, yogurt, chocolate and cocoa, excessive smoking.

Body massage with sesame or mustard oil helps to reduce the vata and thus reduce the pain. The joints affected by pain can be massaged for longer time.

Hope I answered your query. Kindly get back to me in case of any further queries.
