Suggest Treatment For Severe Bronchitis And Cough

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jan 2017
Question: I have been taking a daily dose of 250 mg of Zithromax since Thursday for ear trouble and likely bronchitis. I'm also taking a 12 hr tab of Mucinex expectorant to loosen my cough. But I realized last night that the lozenges I've been using are a suppressant. My ears are better but my cough is still mostly a dry hack which has caused upper and lower back pain. I thought I would see more progress by now. Your thoughts? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Using analgesics may be needed as cough may take few more days to settle

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it seems as the pains are costochondral due to repeated coughing but let me clarify that cough may take few days to a week or two to resolve completely.
Cough suppressants may help to decrease it's frequency though.

Meanhwile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen may help with the pains or capciacin gels can be used topically over the tender or painful ribs and may help.

Using steam inhalations may also help too. Using a cup of honey in hot water two to three times daily has also been of relief. Meanwhile avoid direct exposure to dust or cold.

Antibiotic combination is ideal for the symptoms and may be continued. Anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine should also give symptomatic relief.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
