Question: I fell and hit my left side 6 days ago. the bruise just started showing up two days ago. It doesn't hurt all the time just when I cough, bend over too fast or lay on my left side. The bruise is small, dark and at the bottom of my rib cage.

Brief Answer:
Most probably a muscular trauma.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/56 - fall and hit on left side 6 days ago - small bruise, dark and at the bottom of rib cage - hurts on coughing, bending over too fast, or lay on left side - not visited a Doctor - no medication ...

As per the history you have provided, this looks to be due to local muscular trauma.
Fractured ribs would have caused severe pain even on regular breathing.
Slow bleeding from muscles can show up delayed bruise.
The pain on coughing, bending over too fast can be due to action of sprained muscles.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Avoid all the action and positions that cause pain.
Do not apply anything locally as it is already 6 days.
Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen for a few days and see.
Get examined by a Doctor and get an X-ray of the affected area just to rule out fractured rib/s.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
