Question : I was having severe chest pain and went to ER. Mt d dimer levels were elevated at 2.17 when the Range is .00-.45. Due to this they performed a CT scan of my chest which came back normal. I gave blood about two weeks ago and the technician must have done a bad job because my forearm was severely bruised. There is still a small bruise as of now. My question is if this bruising could possibly cause my d dimer levels to be so high? Thank you.

the d-dimers may indeed be elevated in injuries but it usually gets back to normal soon. In abdominal surgery the d-dimers may take 25-45 days to get back to normal but in other cases the time needed is significantly less. I can't tell how much time is needed for a bruise but I can't exclude that your d-dimers were related to it, since it wasn't fully absorbed yet.
Finally 2.17 is not that high. In pulmonary embolism values higher than 10 are common but lower values do not exclude it either. Another concern might be deep vein thrombosis but you haven't mentioned anything about it (ultrasound scan).
Even if the cause can be guessed by the patient's history, a patient with symptoms of a serious condition has to be investigated until the serious condition can be safely excluded.
