Suggest Treatment For Severe Cold And Cough After Hymenoplasty

Question: Hello doctor. I had hymenoplasty on 20.12.16. I haven't felt any excess discomfort or bleeding yet, and i was on bed rest for next for days. 1 day after hymenoplasty i had cold and cough and i sneezed and coughed many times. In initial 3 days, i used to feel a strain in the vagina on the sutures whenever i coughed, it felt a strain. But in the last two days the feeling of strain is gone. Whenever i cough now there is no strain or discomfort feeling in the surgery area. There is only negligible discomfort sometimes in general. I'm very scared that my stitches might have been broken and it'll lead to hymenoplasty failure. There has not been any other activity that may lead to breaking of sutures. Can this happen? Can coughing break the sutures?

Brief Answer:
Not likely to do any damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
A very strong cough can cause the sutures to be damaged. But since the cough was only mild and it happened only once it is not likely to damage the sutures. You can get it examined by your gynecologist to confirm.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Is there any sign of breaking of sutures..like excess bleeding or pain or discomfort?
And the strain I'd talked about, that I used to feel while coughing.. Can the strain disappear only because of breaking of sutures, or that might go due to softening of dissolvable sutures or some healing?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The breaking of sutures may not cause much bleeding or pain. Only a direct examination is the best way to find the damage if any. The strain that you felt was due to the sutures and it is normal. This disappears after the sutures heal gradually. It is not suggestive of broken sutures.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you doctor. In addition, I'd like to ask exactly how much time it takes for the hymen to heal after hymenoplasty? Does it actually heals or i have to rely upon the sutures? My doctor said he had used dissolvable sutures. And also after how much time a safe intercourse is suggested?

Brief Answer:
Usually heals in 7 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The hymen usually heals in 7 days after repair. It actually heals. You need not rely on the stitches. You can have intercourse after 4 weeks. But after intercourse the hymen can break again.

Regards.
