Question : I am having severe cramping in ulq and llq with radial pain to the right back. I have been unable to have a normal bowel movement since Saturday, they are very thin, short, flaky stools, mostly just fluid and mucus. I did pass one blood clot that was about the size of a small acorn. I was unable to relieve the pressure with an enema, as it would not accept the fluid. I took some Dulcolax and stool size has not gotten better but now there are very hard, round, pink and flesh colored balls in the stool. The balls are not malleable, they are very hard. I called for an appointment but cannot be seen until Wednesday. Any idea what this may be or what could help relieve some of the pain.
Brief Answer:
impacted fecoliths is a possibility
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
This looks be an impacted fecoliths in the descending colon. This can explain all the symptoms and findings you have noted.
The causes can be found out later as you need evacuation to get a relief.
I think enema should be repeated. Conventional Soap-water enema works the best in such cases. In addition you can take liquid paraffin preparations with picosulphate- cremaffin plus 2 to 3 tsf.
The primary reason has to be found out once the present problem is over. For this you will need to undergo colonoscopy, biopsy, CT scan abdomen.
