Question : Hi,
I have a son of 5 months old. he has developed cough and cold. from past 3 days I am giving S-Mucalite - 1 ml x 3times a day (Cough) and Zyrtec (Cold) - 0.5 ml a day.

He is still having severe cough and cold. Could you please suggest any other medication or any advise on home medicines?

Dear Ms XXXXXXX

Majority of Respiratory tract infection in babies are viral in origin and self limiting.

If the following criteria are fulfilled there is no cause for concern

1 Absence of high grade fever

2. Respiration quite and normal

3. Baby accepting feeds well

Continue giving the medication as already started . I would suggest you the following

1. Normal Saline Nasal drops : 3 to 4 drops in each nose 4 to 6 times a day.

2 steam inhalation : Preferably using electronic steamer. Maintain safe distance from baby. Use it for 5 to 10 minutes

3. Normal Saline Nebulization using home nebulizer
