Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough At Night

default
Posted on Wed, 19 Aug 2015
Question: I am a dance teacher so I exercise a lot. I have a hiatal hernia and a lot of coughing especially at night and some trouble breathing. I also get plehm if I take a Fisherman's cough drop which used to be helpful. Famotidine 10mg helps me get a little sleep. I have been off Protonix for about 3 months after having been on it for over 4 years. what should I do about this cough? Do I need to have surgery on my hernia?

Brief Answer:
You need to see surgical options

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. if your Gastro esophageal reflux is not controlled by medications and raising your bed then you need to look for surgical plication.
For cough with sputum I would suggest you to get x ray of the chest to see if there is any allergic reactions or infections. Raised eosinophil count is also marker of allergy. If that is the cause then you should treat cough first otherwise there is recurrence of hernia.
I would also recommend you to take Omeprazole rather then famotidine with your doctor's permission.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. let me know if there is any other followup questions. thanks
