Question: I have a bad cough. When I take in a deep breath it causes me to cough and it hurts my lungs when I do cough.

I am Dr Mittal. I have read your query. I think I would be able to help you. The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of 2 possible causes-
1. A upper respiratory tract infection may be able to cause you severe cough. The prolonged period of coughing may cause the muscles of the chest to become sore there fore causing chest pain or lung discomfort.
2. A lower respiratory tract infection may be considered for the cause of severe cough along with chest discomfort.

The best way to detect this would be to get a chest X ray done so that the infecting cab be visualised and so the treatment can be continued accordingly. Your local doctor will know about the test.
