Question: Hi, I have had a bad cough now for 3 weeks, a bit up and down with how I feel. I went to the doctors , who told me I had a bad virus. I have been getting tingling in my tongue and now I am still coughing, sometimes it feels like a cold and seems to be going away, but then it comes back again. My cough is very dry and feels like something is tickling my throat. My chest is sore from coughing

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Sorry to hear that you have cough from so long time.
As your doctor correctly said it could be viral respiratory tract infection.
I would like to ask some more questions to rule out other reasons for dry cough.
1. Do you have any other co morbidities? Like diabetes, hypertension or anything else?
2. What are your regular medications that you take everyday?
3. Do you have swelling on your feet?
4. Any cardiac or renal problems?
5. Have you do eosinophil count lately?
6. Did you ever had ascariasis or round worm infestation?
Kindly answer me above questions so as I can get details about you to help you answer better.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
then its viral infection only. treatment symptomatically

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for following up with me.
Thank you for your answer.
It looks like that you do have viral infection only.
There is no treatment for it. Just symptomatic treatment and wait for the infection to go away.
You can try having cough syrup which suppresses the cough irritation like an antitussive cough syrup.
Drinking hot soup will give relief.
It might take several weeks to go away.
Avoid cold food and drinks for a while as it might aggravate the cough and cause more discomfort.
Its already 3 weeks as you mentioned before so it might already be on its way out. It will get better soon.
I hope I have answered your query well.
If you have any questions kindly ask me back.
Thank you
