Question: Hi Doctor, My 8.5months old baby boy has been coughing a little bit from past 2 days. He is not coughing too much neither its too bad(3-4 times in a day). Me and my husband have a bad throat and we too were having cold and cough from past 2 days. Today my son coughed 3-4 times in the morning and i could also hear sound from his chest.. But now he seems to be fine. Can you suggest some mild medicine for his cough. I want to avoid any situation where it gets worse. We are from XXXXXXX where the weather keeps changing everyday, or may be he got infection from us. Please suggest some medicine for him. Also advice what should we avoid feeding him(banana or wheat halwa shud be avoided or not), or what should we feed him . Thanks in Advance. Also, pls let me know if T-minic drops or sinarest drops can be given to 8.5 months old baby? If they are meant for cough and cold? Thanks

Brief Answer:
do not self medicate.

Detailed Answer:
Hi thanks for writing to us.

The history is suggesting that the child may have contracted the cough form the adults in the family, so he has to be thoroughly examined by a pediatrician before giving any medications, prescribing medicines over the internet is not advisable.

Its for your child s own good.

Kindly avoid all fruits for a few days till the cough subsides. Wheat halwa prepared with jaggery at home should be fine.

Tminic and sinarest drops can be given to the baby, it is meant for cold and dry cough.

Once again get your child evaluated by the pediatrician, do not self medicate.

Thank you, regards.
