Suggest Treatment For Severe Dizziness, Vertigo And High BP

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Aug 2015
Question: My blood pressure has always been normal. Friday, it spiked to 205/110. I'm 48, woman, 155 pounds. I was extremely dizzy. I went to see my regular doctor who sent me to emergency.
I spent 24 hours getting a million tests. They sent me home with "vertigo" and medication to control the dizziness.
However, after all the doctors transitioned...no one seemed to worry about what the cause of the the really high blood pressure was? Maybe that's causing the vertigo?
Thoughts?

Brief Answer:
High blood pressure is the cause for your vertigo or dizziness.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

High blood pressure could be associated with manifestations like dizziness or rotatory sensations of the head. So,here in your case the high blood pressure is the cause for your vertigo or dizziness.

Prompt reduction of blood pressure can help to recover from this kind of symptoms.

Now,looking at the causes of this elevated blood pressure.

1. There could be many causes of hypertension but in more then 98% of cases is without a known aetiology.(means it could be essential hypertension).

2. I would recommend the following investigations if they had not done previously.

- ECG
- Cardiac ECHO
- Abdominal ultrasound (renal and suprarenal glands)
- Routine Blood work.(lipid profile)
- BP monitoring and Holter monitoring

3. Now,if you blood pressure has come down to normal then there is no need to worry much but if it remains above 140 systolic and 90 diastolic then I would recommend starting medications ACE-inhibitors, diuretics (hydrochlortiazide) and calcium channel blockers (amlodipine) to control BP whichever the good combination suits for you to control blood pressure.

So,consult nearest physician for anti-hypertensives.

Hope this will help you.
