Question: Hello. I'm a 28 year old female. My dentist has told me that I severe enamel erosion on my teeth. He's asked me to see a doctor. I'm not bulimic and I don't drink sugary soda's more than the average person. I do on occasion have severe acid reflux but it's not constant. I don't take anything right now other than the occasional Tums. He mentioned that he thinks it's from reflux and it could be causing me a lot of damage else where (throat and stomach). My dentist stressed that I go see someone since I shouldn't have this much erosion at my age. I really scared me. How worried should I be?

Brief Answer:
capsule omeprazole 20 mg once daily for 15 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I have gone through your query.
There are few causes of enamel erosion, I will mention them.
Excessive fizzy and soft drink consumption (high levels of phosphoric and citric acids). Fruit drinks (some acids in fruit drinks are more erosive than battery acid). Dry mouth or low salivary flow.A diet high in sugar and starches
Acid reflux disease (GORD). Gastrointestinal problems. Certain medications (aspirin, antihistamines). Environmental factors (friction, wear and tear, stress, and corrosion).

As you have mentioned you have acid reflux, I would suggest you to avoid spicy food, alcohol, smoking. Eat bland diet for few days. Eat food rich in fibres. Avoid coffee. Eat small but frequent meals, rather than heavy meal. Walk for 10 to 15 minutes post watint, do not lie down immediately after eating.
Take capsule omeprazole 20 mg once daily, empty stomach, before breakfast for 15 days. I think with this measures, your acid reflux will reduce and also observe for improvement in dental health.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.
