Posted on Wed, 15 Apr 2015
Question: Hi Recently I've done a iron test since I had severe fatigue, and it was 7.5ng/ml
Doc prescribed me OROFER CT tab 2 times a day for a month and then one tablet a day for 3months. I've done the test on 3rd of Mar and now I could say that my fatigue issue is gone
Now suddenly yest I had a strange sensation in my legs like crawling or tingling after which my legs became weak.now m unable to walk .. When I walk I feel my legs are weak and unsteady. Along with this I have nervousness, and muscle ticks below my eyes and in some parts of the body
My Vit b12 was 220 and m taking treatment for that monthly once m taking Rejuneuron 500mcg injection.
Could my symptoms reflect magnesium deficiency?

Brief Answer:
YES; THE SYMPTOMS COULD BE RELATED TO MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY!

Detailed Answer:
Hi! thanks for writing to us!

I think it is OROFER-XT and not OROFER-CT which contains hematinics as follows:
Total Elemental iron 100 mg, folic acid 1.1 mg, methylcobalamin (B12)1.55 mg, Elemental zinc 22.5 mg.

So there is no question of Vitamin B12 deficiency... until unless you have some severe intestinal disease or malabsorption !

Now coming to the symptoms of magnesium deficiency which are listed below:
Muscle soreness or spasms.
Infertility or PMS.
High levels of stress.
Inability to sleep or insomnia.
Irritability.
Sensitivity to noise.
Mental disturbances.
Anxiety, depression or restlessness.....

The first symptoms of deficiency can be subtle – as most magnesium is stored in the tissues, leg cramps, foot pain, or muscle 'twitches' can be the first sign. Other early signs of deficiency include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and weakness. As magnesium deficiency worsens, numbness, tingling, seizures, personality changes, abnormal heart rhythms, and coronary spasms can occur...

THEREFORE, YOU ARE CORRECT THAT THE SYMPTOMS COULD BE RELATED TO MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY!

Hi thanks for your reply.
I checked in Google regarding the composition of OROFER xt no where I could locate that it has b12 in it.
Well I went thru lots of stress/depression in my life could that be the cause for my vitamin deficiencies
Now with b12,iron being low and m on treatment. What other vitamins I need to check?? M really going thru tough time with my health for past 1 year
3.5yrs back I developed unsteadiness and no doc was able to find the cause till last August where I was told my b12 is low once I startrd treatment now nearly 6 months my unsteadiness is 90% gone.
And how can I check my magnesium levels?
It is low how will I increase them?
How long it will take for the symptoms to subside?
And I don knw wat other vitamins are affected. To resolve all can I take multivitamin?

Brief Answer:
DON'T WORRY; IT IS EASILY TREATABLE!

Detailed Answer:
Hi! you are correct! OROFER XT Total contains B12 in addition and not OROFER XT;

Anyways, you need to check for B-complexes, vitamin-C, calcium /potassium level and hormonal deficiencies like THYROID, PARATHYROID, CALCITONIN, INSULIN and if possible a neurological assessment by a neurologist...!

You have to give fasting blood sample for magnesium level. It could also be estimated from 24 hours collected urine sample.

You have to take magnesium rich foods like leafy vegetables, fish, nuts etc, and multivitamins/minerals combinations preferably under a physician's prescription

it would take 3 -6 months for the symptoms to subside..

Wishing you good health,
