Question : Hi Doc,

My 4 year son is running 100-102 fever since the last 8 hours. We have him crocin 5ml 8 hours back and then meftal P after 4 hours. He still has 102 fever. We are using a wet towel. What can we do now? Should we give him crocin 5ml again? Unfortunately we are on vacation and don't have access to a doctor before morning. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Yes, Crocin can be given again.

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for your child.
There's nothing to worry about him, he will be alright in due course of time.

Crocin (Paracetamol) is the safest drug to reduce the high body temperature in children however if fever does not settle, then Meftal-P can be given.

For a 4 years old child Crocin can be given in the dose of approx 250 mg (about 10 mL) every 6 hourly (4 times daily).

Meftal-P (Mefenemic acid) can be given at a dose of 5 mg/Kg body weight.
Usually the syrup contains 50 mg/5ml. It can be given every 8th hourly (3 times) daily.

If the fever doesn't subside, it is better to get him examined by a pediatrician to rule out infection and a course of appropriate antibiotic is what he may need.

Meanwhile,
Give him plenty of liquids to keep him hydrated.

Continue giving cold sponging or give him a shower (with normal temperature water).

Hope the suggestions given above could be useful.
Wishing your child speedy recovery.

Thanks Doc. His fever has subsided but is now complaining of stomach ache. He is now passing loose stools (2 times since evening with pungent smell) and has also vomitted twice. We have given him Ondem (2.5 ml), Meftab Spa (5 ml) and Entrogermina. His weight is 15 kgs. As you suspected, looks like he has picked up a stomach infection either from the food or the pool y

Brief Answer:
Antibiotics may be needed after consulting a pediatrician

Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome back.
Thanks for your reply.
Well, glad to know that his fever has subsided.
For the treatment of stomach ache and loose motions he may need a course of antibiotics such as Ofloxacin+Ornidazole combination after consulting a pediatrician.
Meanwhile continue giving him oral fluids, juices, or oral rehydration solution (electral) to keep him hydrated.

Enterogermina is a 'Probiotic' (culture of beneficial bacteria) which allows better digestion & also to help prevent diarrhea associated with antibiotic use.

Hope the advice given above will be helpful.
Best regards.
