Question: My brother has being diagnosed with severe global atrophy. It occurred 44 days ago. He shows no sign of improvement. He does not know us, cannot speak, bangs chair feeding table with fists in aggression and only can stare at you on occasions. HIs hand scratches table aggressively. He cries when you talk about his deceased mother. Can You give us any hope that he will get his mind back and communicate and know us in the near future.

Brief Answer:
Chances are less

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your brother's condition and I think that we can not expect too much in this case. Global atrophy is irreversible disease and once some part of the brain is lost, then it can no the recovered. So there is very little chances that his brain function will improve.
I would recommend you to show it to neurologist. There are some medicines which can prevent further deterioration of brain function. he can be prescribed sedatives for calming effect.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Reference my mail yesterday on my brothers global atrophy condition HIs body organs including his liver are ok according to the consultants comments and all that is damaged is his brain . wHat is the future outcome, will he live in this non responsive condition for say 20 years more or will his brain shut down more to cause body organ failure sooner than later as his quality of life is not good at present. hAve you an opinion on this question.

Brief Answer:
We can not predict his death

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is not possible to predict outcome of organ failure, so we need to continue support treatment. Global atrophy will not cause any organ failure, unless he stops eating or do not take food.
thanks
