Suggest Treatment For Severe Hair Fall After Child Birth

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Oct 2016
Question: I have a tremendous hairfall after my second child birth. I already have a bald patch at front due to the hairfall after my first kid delivery. And with the current hairfall I am worried if I will completely go bald. I am still feeding my 4 month old daughter.

Please advise if it is possible to atleast minimize the hairfall.

Brief Answer:
Post partum hair loss is quite normal after delivery

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.Kakkar (Dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

You have what is called post partum hair loss. This usually starts the third or fourth postpartum and ends by six months. This is a temporary phase. During pregnancy, incresed levels of estrogens in your body makes hair thick and lusturous, hair that would normally fall out stays put, resulting in thicker hair. After delivery when estrogen levels fall, one start losing all those hair that were resting during pregnancy. This temporary hair loss is hormonal. I would advice to take a good healthy diet, continue with your Iron and calcium supplements and Vit D supplements till you are breast feeding. Take a high protein diet because hair is all protein(keratin). This phase will pass sooner or later. I hope i have answered your query.

You can also use minoxidil 5% solution (Mintop forte solution), 1ml, twice daily

take care.
