Question: Hello Doctor,

I am a 31 year old female with Non-vegeterian eating habbit. I am married and have one daugther. For the past few months, I am suffering severe hair fall.
I have never applied oil to my hair from my childhood. There is also no dandruf in my hair. My doctor had done some tests to find out the root cause of hair fall. From which we came to know that hair fall is due to "Severe deficiency of Vitamin D". My Vitamin D is 4.20 with test rechecked to confirm. My doctor has given me few medicines(Calcirol granules 12 packs and minokem 5% lotion, q-sera lotion, Elution shampoo, nu hair capsule and hair vita capsule) and hair massage treatment. She also advice to get exposed to sunshine regularly. Attaching my test report done by doctor.

Please suggest the remedies. Looking forward for your response.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.
I have read your query and understood your concern.
I have seen the attached report also.

Hair fall can be due to number of reasons like recent illness within past 6 months, physical or mental stress, anaemia, thyroid disorder etc. Ypur hemoglobin levels are within normal limits.
Regarding your concern for vit D levels, I would like to inform you that the range that is given by the labs is not according to XXXXXXX reference. So if you get it done in any of your family members, it would show deficient levels only. So it has nothing to do with your hair fall.
Otherwise, your doctor has prescribed you the correct medications. You may continue to use these for atleast 3 months together before any beneficial effect is appreciated.
I will advice you to get your thyroid levels also.
Kindly also let me know whether the hair fall is diffuse or is in particular pattern involving scalp?
Kindly reply to my questions and if you have any further query you may ask me.
Stay healthy.

Thanks Doctor for the detail reply. Hair fall is there all over the scalp and not in any pattern so far.

What particular thyroid test(name)has to be done to know the thyroid levels? Does thyroid levels contribute to hair fall. What is the normal expected thyroid level for a women.

My Doctor has prescribed Keratin therapy(laser), from Next week, once per week for three weeks. Is it required? Keratin therapy treatment is prescribed after my scalp treatment gets over by next week.

What is the best that can be done to increase the Vitamin d levels? apart from taking medicine. I used to diet by taking only fruits and skipping meal. Does dieting will cause hair fall? What is the food habit that has to be followed to have a healthy hair.

Will the hair fall reduce if I apply coconut oil daily? Looking forward for your response.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
TSH levels

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome again.
You may get your TSH levels done from a reputed lab. The normal range varies from lab to lab.
Definitely thyroid disorder is one of the common cause of hair fall.
Dieting can also lead to hair loss if balanced diet is not taken. It may lead to nutritional deficiency resulting in hair loss.
Oiling is otherwise not required for hair. If at all necessary, you may put oil for half an hour before shampooing.
I hope it helps. If you do not have any further query, kindly close the discussion and rate it.
Regards
Dr Charu.
