I'm suffering from severe hair loss and hair thinning. I've had a condition of PCOD during my early teens. I've tried medication for the hair fall, but it never helped. How should control the hair loss? What should I do to get my hair grow normally? Please advise.
My menstrual cycle is normally regular.
It could be due to hormonal changes in PCOD
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM. I've gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Hair loss is a common problem in PCOD. It could be due to hormonal problems or due to other causes
1. Hormonal problems
Hypothyroidism and male hormone excess in PCOD can lead to hair loss
2. Other causes
Dandruff, vitamin deficiencies, protein deficiencies etc can cause hair loss.
Are you suffering from increased facial hair? Have you done any hormonal tests?
Please consult an endocrinologist or physician and have yourselves evaluated for hair loss. Please let us know the reports.
The treatment depends on the cause of hair loss.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you
Regards,
Dr Ajish TP [MD,DM]
