Question : Hello doctor . I have had tremendous hair fall since October 2015 . Now my hair is Limp and dry and extremely thin . I tested my ferretin levels and it is 39.5ng/ml. I would like to raise my ferretin levels to atleast 70 . Please kindly let me know the supplementation and the amount to achieve it . Good Diet for me is very difficult since I'm travelling mostly and hardly at home .
Also I tested my vitamin d3 and it is 43.5 my/ml . I hardly get any sunshine due to my job . Maybe twice a week I step out in sunshine .
Kindly suggest supplementation so as to control my hair fall . Kindly suggest daily supplementation to increase my ferretin levels to 70 ng/ml and also suggest daily supplementation for vitamin d3 .
Regards
T

Brief Answer:
Supplementation for vitamin D and ferritin levels

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I am Dr Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, a dermatologist.
Your ferritin and vitamin D levels are absolutely normal but if you still want to increase the serum ferritin levels take a capsule containing ferrous fumarate 200 mg daily one hour before lunch or dinner for atleast 3 months.
Your Vitamin D levels are also normal but to keep the levels normal take capsule vitamin D 60,000 units weekly for 8 weeks followed by 60,000 units monthly for 6 months.
Moreover for hair growth you need to take tablets containing hair supplements like biotin and calcium pantothenate.
Also rule out other causes of hair loss as treatment depends on the cause.
The most common causes encountered by me are thyroid disorders, fevers like typhoid, malaria, any chronic diseases, drugs, accidents, surgery, trauma, after child birth and male and female pattern baldness.

Thankyou doctor can you suggest medicines for the same , a particular brand that you might recommend for the ferretin supplement, calcium and d3 supplement so I could ask a pharmacist .
I will start taking biotin supplement .
I had done a few thyroid tests in the past and the tests have been normal .
