Possible causes of excessive hair shedding
Detailed Answer:
hello. thank you for writing to us.
I am Dr. Kakkar(dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.
Excessive hair fall in a teenage child has fewer causes, usually a precipitating cause in the preceding 1-3 months from onset of hair fall e.g a medical illness (e.g jaundice, malaria, dengue etc) or surgery or significant weight loss or severe nutritional deficiency. Another important cause is alopecia areata which is also associated with bald patches in the scalp. Rarely severe dandruff(seborrheic dermatitis) or an underlying scaly scalp dermatosis like psoriasis or lichen XXXXXXX pilaris (LPP) can also lead to excessive hair shedding.
I would like to know if there is any such preceding precipitating cause, as medical or surgical illness, weight loss etc in 1-3 months preceding hair loss?
Does he has scalp itching/ dandruff/ scaly patches? Are there any bald patches on scalp?
Regards
Remedy for dandruff and itching
Detailed Answer:
thank you
I suggest him to use Elocon lotion, twice daily. It would help reduce dandruff as well as itching.
He may use Scalpe shampoo either daily or every alternate days. Lather it well on to wet scalp and leave it on for 5-7 minutes before rinsing it off.
