Suggest Treatment For Severe Hairfall Despite Using Minoxidil

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: its been a month using the meds, but my hairfall got worse than earlier (i am guessing its bcoz of the minoxidil) but the hairloss is to the extent that iv started panicking now. earlier i used to shed 15-30 a day . Now its probably 70-100 a day.
I am really regretting using minoxidil. Do i stop, or keep using it? online articles about minoxidil are such horror stories that I have very strong inclination to stop using it.
will stopping it cause more hairloss? can u tell what MSM is and if its tablets can be an alternative ?

Brief Answer:
I suggest you to continue minoxidil

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing back.

Minoxidil can cause an initial increase in hair shedding in some individuals. This is actually a sign that it is working! This increased hair shedding is due as 'Anagen Surge' wherein new hair (Anagen hair) that is growing pushes out resting hair (Telogen hair) out of the follicle. This manifest as increased hair shedding initially. This telogen hair was anyways going to be shed sooner or later. Minoxidil is just making them shed faster! That seems to be the reason for increased hair shedding in your case. Therefore I suggest you to continue with minoxidil.

I am not aware of abbreviation MSM. What is its full form?
Are you also taking some tablet for hair loss?

Brief Answer:
Continue with what you have been doing

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

No. Please dont start this i.e MSM(methylsulfonylmethane). It is not an approved treatment.
I suggest you to continue with what you have been using till now i.e minoxidil, saw palmetto and biotin. I have already explained you the reason for transient increase in hair fall with minoxidil. This phase will pass over soon.
