Suggest Treatment For Severe Headache With Vertigo

Question: My son woke up with an extreme, intense headache, it seems taxing to speak, and with severe vertigo. There is intense pain behind his eyes. He does not suffer from migraine headaches. He ran a triathlon this past weekend. He is out of state at university. Does he go to the emergency room?

Hello XXXX,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Headache in young age is usually primary like migraine or tension type and less commonly cluster headache.
Secondary headache of acute onset with very severe nature (worst headache of life) requires evaluation for sub arachnoid haemorrhage.
In present scenario without any previous history of headache , i will advise to consult a doctor in emergency room. The examination by a doctor and investigations or treatment will be more beneficial rather than taking medications on its own.
In case of inability to contact a doctor , paracetamol or naproxen can be taken.
