Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: I have had these symptoms for almost three months. Some of them lessened over the past two weeks, but now they have all come back severe.

*I have had swollen arteries on my temples and 4 days ago I started having a severe headache. Painful to move hair on the scalp on the left side.
*Headache is very severe pressure in sides and top near eyes. Can feel pulse in my head when lying down.
*Eye pain when looking up or to the sides.
*Vision impairment almost blurry and eyes feel dry.
*Chest pain in the center that goes through to the back. Woken up by aching pain last night. Today chest hurts and feels weak. Pulse is elevated. Pain worsens if I move from one side to the other.
*Jaw pain in left side that comes and goes.
*Exhausted just from taking steps.
*Right arm feels like a tourniquet is on and
tingling feeling in pinky to index finger.
*Left arm has same feeling, but not as strong.
*Tingling pins and needles on left shoulder/neck area.
*Gasping every time I sit up from a lying position. Or if I change sides in bed.
*Palpitations were constant, but they have subsided.
My most recent labs show a d dimer of 247 and <235 is normal. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease late stage 7 days ago. I also tested positive for Babesia microti and rising CMV IgG of 1.68 to 2.42.I am 30 years old, 5'5 and 118 lbs after losing 14 lbs during the course of being ill. My blood pressure has been low with my systolic being low. 95/72 103/76
I feel completely awful and I can't even sleep due to the headache. Tylenol does not help.

Brief Answer:
All features of lyme disease proper therapy should be started at the earliest

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Have gone through your details.
I am sorry for your condition but all your symptoms are because of lymes disease.
You should initially consult a physician
Antibiotics like doxycyline or cefuroxime auxetil should be started as early as possible, because recovery of patient treated early is better.
Individuals with late infection may have symptomatic cardiac disease, refractory Lyme arthritis, or neurologic symptoms like meningitis or encephalitis.Intravenous administration of ceftriaxone is recommended as the first choice in these cases.
Tyelenol contains paracetamol ask your physician to prescribe you a combination of Diclofenac and serratiopeptidase for symptomatic relief,Broad spectrum antibiotic should be started at the earliest.

Tests advised:
-E.C.G
-2d echo to rule out cardiac involvement
-X ray cervical spine to rule out the cause of tingling in both arms and headache

however all these symptoms are very specific of lymes disease.Once the disease is treated every thing should settle down.

Thank you for answering me.
I am currently taking doxycycline hyclate 100mg twice daily since last Thursday night. I had two days last week where I did not have a rapid pulse and my chest felt okay. Then the pain and increase in rate started on Tuesday. How long does it take for the herxing to start after antibiotics? My doctor said I might start to feel worse for about a week, but it didn't happen right away. I am wondering if I have additional problems considering the swollen arteries on my temples.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Swollen arteries on temple can be because of Arteritis which is a complication of lymes disease. For pulse and pain problem get a ecg done,If ecg is normal you are free from cardiac side .Herxing will start from 10th day after antibiotic therapy and may last upto a month.
From cardiac side i would recommend you to get a ecg done.If ecg is normal there is no need to worry.
For swollen arteries on temple its better to consult a neurologist.
Thank you.
