Brief Answer:
Hypocalcemia or carnitine deficiency

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.

Leg cramps in calves and feet can be caused by either calcium / vitamin D deficiency (hypocalcemic tetany) or Carnitine deficiency.

Calcium and carnitine are two essential components which are required for smooth contractions of skeletal muscles in our body.

Deficiency of either or both of them can give rise to cramps in calves and feet .

The deficiencies can be checked by doing blood tests.

Only taking analgesics won't help.Infact, taking painkiller tablets without correcting the calcium/carnitine deficiencies may aggravate the symptoms.

I suggest you to start on calcium and vitamin D3 supplements along with L-carnitine tablets.

The symptoms should improve within a week.

Application of compression bandage and local analgesic gels followed by hot fomentation will be helpful.

I hope the answer was useful.
