Question : I have had persistent low left abdominal pain for at least a year now, or as long as I can remember. Its a dull ache pain that is virtually constant. I have been taking prescription pain pills for years now for another condition and that seems to mask it. I have noticed that when I am not using the medication that obviously the pain is much more apparent.

Hi,
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:
1. You are reporting for lower left abdominal pain that is constant.
I need to know more like :
- do you have bowel movement changes like diarrhea or constipation ?
- do you have blood in your stools?
2. If I were your treating doctor I would suggest to do
- abdominal ultrasound
- colonoscopy
- fecal occult blood test
- urine analysis
3. Your symptoms may be related with :
- large bowel issues
- urinary tree issues
Hope it was helpful to you!

I have had a colonoscopy at the age of 50. I don't have bowel issues. not to mention that my father was an osteopath, my suspicion is that I have a minor hernia. Please send your feedback.
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Usually pain due to discal hernia is more severe.
Otherwise you should do spinal cord X-ray to confirm your suspicions.
If you have done colonoscopy 2 years ago and you don't have heredity for large bowel issues than there is no need to repeat it.
Hope it was helpful to you!
