Brief Answer:
take naproxyn or sumatriptan, start primary prophylaxis

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

Thanks for writing me again.

In severe migraine headache naproxyn or tiptan group of drugs (sumatriptan, rizatriptan) should be taken. You can take that for relief of pain.

As your frequency of headache is high it is better to have prophylactic treatment. In this propranolol, amitriptyline or sodium valproate is used. Other agents are flunarizine, topiramate and flupirtine maleate. One of them or more should be used daily for 3-4 months to prevent headache.

Please take naproxyn or sumatriptan for a while and ask your doctor to start prophylaxis treatment.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.

Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Brief Answer:
Naprosyn (naproxen)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sorry for typing error. It is called Naprosyn (naproxen). Dose is 500 mg and you can repeat the dose after 6 hours if no improvement.

For prophylaxis treatment choice of medicine depends on many factors like detail history of patient, correlated symptoms, proneness of the patient to side effect, choice of doctor etc.

I prefer propranolol sustain release in 40 mg after breakfast and amitriptyline 25 mg at night in most of the patients. You can ask your doctor for prophylaxis treatment and after discussion you can choose the appropriate medicines and start.

Take care.

Brief Answer:
both can cause sedation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Amitriptyline in 25 mg dose and flunarizine in range of 5-20 mg according to symptoms should be taken. Better to take both at night or take flunarizine in morning and amitriptyline (more sedative) at night as both can cause sedation.

take care.
