Question: Hi. Last month I had my gallbladder removed due to a non functioning gallbladder. My symptoms had been severe nausea and vomiting. Profuse sweating, chills alternating with sweats. Decreased appetite.

The symptoms returned. A few days ago I noticed one of the incisions was infected. I managed to get a small amount of pus out. It looks fine now. Endoscopy, colonoscopy, came back fine. I'm beginning to worry. I hate throwing up. Can you offer a suggestion?

Brief Answer:
It is Post-operative adjustment of body. Treatment is needed to resolve.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

It seems to be due to post-surgical adjustment of the body to the system. You will not be left helpless as I am here to take you out of this situation. Nobody likes to throw up and I feel sorry that you are bearing the problem again.

If I was your treating physician I would have prescribed you with Ondansetron, Omeprazole and Citrulose dietary fiber supplement.

Actually What happens is when we remove gallbladder we have to adjust the diet accordingly. I want to explain you a little what actually the function of gallbladder is and whats going on inside the system after your cholecystectomy:

You have to take low to no fatty and fried foods. Fats when we eat go to the small intestines and they need Gallbladder and pancreatic secretions to be poured on the fatty foods to start digestion of fats. Gallbladder in this way helps in emulsification and breaking the fats into small droplets easy for further digestion by Lipases enzymes.

More fatty and eating with a full stomach meals means more and more function the gallbladder needs which is no more there. It causes then more formation of the fatty stools and other Gastrointestinal tract disturbances.

So:-
*No heavy meals, take small and frequent meals instead.
*More vegetables.
*Les fats and fried , junk foods.
*No more coffee, tea, energy drinks, alcohol and Sodas.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.
