Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain After Lipoma Removal

Posted on Mon, 28 Nov 2016
Question: I had a lipoma removed 17 days ago. When the stitches were removed, it opened slightly, but the next day it opened completely. Was told to cover it and let it heal. It does not seem to be healing very fast. It doesn't feel very good and bleeds pretty easily, kind of thought it wouldnt by now. It is sensitive, and I want to make sure there isn't anything I should be really concerned about. I hate to waste a trip to the Er for nothing. I have attached a picture. Could you please let me know if it looks normal. It is on my inner thigh. I have rheumatoid arthritis in case it is important.

Brief Answer:
Healing by secondary intention

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I have reviewed the photograph.
The wound is healing itself, however it will take time to heal completely.
Such healing is done by body repair system and is known as healing by secondary intention.
However, the wound seems unhealthy, and dressing and antibiotics seem to be required.
Because of the infection it might be having, it is bleeding easily.
I will suggest you to consult your treating doctor to get properly examined and treated accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hi, I had requested a general surgeon look at this and I see you are an obgyn? If you are confident with your diagnosis, I will accept it, but I really wanted a surgeon to take a look. I just kind of thought they would have more experience with this kind of wound.
